Return to Newfoundland 2019
new watercolour paintings
from St. Lawrence river, Newfoundland south coast and St. Pierre, France
Our goal for 2020 was to sail Loon’s Lace to the Azores, Ireland and Scandinavia. Newfoundland actually is the shortest distance from North America to the Azores and going there would allow us to complete our circumnavigation of the island (with just a short stretch of the west coast missed). The south coast of Newfoundland is an extraordinary landscape. All the paintings were done on location, either in the cockpit of the boat while underway or at anchor, or while hiking at the various locations.
Original watercolour paintings on 9 x 12″, 140 lbs cold pressed water colour paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards. $300.

Italy 2018
new watercolour paintings
from Puglia, Italy
We had no real plan to go to Italy until Mike found an incredible AirBnB apartment in Lecce, way down in the heel of the boot. We spent the month of November exploring the southern regions eating pizza, exploring Greek ruins in Paestum, climbing many steps in Positano and making photos and painting the whole way. All the paintings were done on location at the various locations.
Original watercolour paintings on 9 x 12″, 140 lbs cold pressed water colour paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards. $300.

Local sailing 2018
new watercolour paintings
from PEC and Thousand Islands
We sold our beloved Phantasia II and purchased Loon’s Lace, a 2006 Najad 405 made in Sweden. While learning the new boat and beginning our upgrades for more distant adventures we sailed closer to home. All the paintings were done on location, either in the cockpit of the boat while underway or at anchor, or while hiking at the various locations.
Original watercolour paintings on 9 x 12″ or 10 x 10.5″, 140 lbs cold pressed water colour paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards. $300.

Heading north 2017
new watercolour paintings
from the Newfoundland and Labrador
This was our most adventurous voyage so far. Late ice meant we couldn’t depart til early July so we didn’t get as far as Torngat as planned but we did make it to Cartwright, following the old coastal steamer route and visiting many very remote locations. All the paintings were done on location, either in the cockpit of the boat while underway or at anchor, or while hiking at the various locations.
Two of these paintings were accepted in the Art Gallery of Northumberland 40th annual juried art show.
Original watercolour paintings on 9 x 12″ or 10 x 14″, 140 lbs cold pressed water colour paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards. $300. & $350.

We retired 2017
new watercolour paintings
from the Netherlands
Mike’s last day of work at the City of Toronto on their web site was March 31, 2017 and that night we flew to Amsterdam where we had rented a small apartment right on one of the canals. We traveled the countryside, looked at boats and art and Mike made photos and I painted.
Original watercolour paintings on 9 x 12″, 140 lbs cold pressed water colour paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards. $300.

Newfoundland 2015
new watercolour paintings
from Newfoundland and a drive to NL
Now available as limited edition giclee prints.
I drove out to NL with a friend and made several stops to paint enroute. Other paintings were made as we cruised from Notre Dame Bay and “all around the circle”, during the summer of 2015. All the paintings are “en plein aire”, meaning they were done on location, either in the cockpit of the boat while underway or at anchor, or while hiking at the various locations.
The giclee prints are limited edition of 5, made using archival inks and paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards.
Printed area, approximately, 10″ x 7″, matted to 16″ x 12″.
$150.00 or as pairs $250.00

enroute 2014
new watercolour paintings
from Newfoundland and Labrador
Now available as limited edition giclee prints.
These paintings were made as we continue sailing up the Strait of Belle Isle and beyond during the summer of 2014. All the paintings are “en plein aire”, meaning they were done on location, either in the cockpit of the boat while underway or at anchor, or while hiking at the various locations.
My method is very spontaneous with no preliminary sketches, and no corrections, resulting in a very impressionistic and expressionistic sensibility.
The giclee prints are limited edition of 5, made using archival inks and paper and matted using archival, cotton based, mat boards.
Printed area, approximately, 10″ x 7″, matted to 16″ x 12″.
